This Thursday (15 August), teenagers across Leicestershire will wake up and learn how they performed in their A Levels. This will be the start of important decisions about the next steps in their lives – whether that’s finding a job or apprenticeship, or moving on to higher education.

On this day, students must go to their schools or colleges to collect their results, which are usually available from 8am. The UCAS centre, which tracks university applications, also releases results on the same day – usually from 8am.

Ahead of the big day, the LDRS has compiled the full list showing how well each school and college performed in the 2022/23 academic year. Leicester Grammar School emerged as the winner as 63.20 per cent of students achieved AAB or above. Their average score was 4.66 and their average grade was A.

Close behind was Leicester High School for Girls, where 60 percent of girls achieved AAB or above. The average score was 45.87 and their average grade last year was A-. Finally, third in the top three was Uppingham School. Their average score was 44.25 and their average grade was B+. 27 percent achieved AAB or above.

At the other end of the scale was Brooke House College with an average result of 19.84, an average grade of D and 0 percent of students achieving AAB or above. Just above that was Castle Rock School in Coalville with an average result of 21.59, an average grade of D and 7 percent of students achieving AAB or above.

Above that was Hinckley School with an average score of 26.84, an average grade of C-, and 3.8 percent of students achieving AAB or better.

Here is the full list of schools ranked based on last year’s results.

John Watson, headteacher of Leicester Grammar School, said: “We are delighted with last year’s record results and to be the best co-educational school in the whole of the Midlands. Last year’s results were exceptionally good and we look forward to this year’s results.”

The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) contacted Leicester High School For Girls, Uppingham School, Hinckley School, Castle Rock School and Brooke House College for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
