A popular cooking class for children from Flint is expanding to West Michigan

Culture Matters children’s cooking class now offered in Kalamazoo.

Classes are aimed at children ages 8 to 17 and focus on teaching basic cooking techniques, healthy eating habits and important life skills in a fun and hands-on environment.

The courses not only teach children cooking skills, but also teach them a range of everyday life skills that will help them as they grow up.

The cooking classes are offered in collaboration with Gottagetit and Can-Do Kalamazoo.

TC McClain, program coordinator for Gottagetit, says the classes are taught by local chefs, are free, and they hope to expand them to wherever children want support.

“I plan to be in Grand Rapids, any place we come to that we want to do cooking classes. I think we’re more than willing to travel there, whether it’s Grand Rapids, Detroit, or anywhere up north. I’m willing to make sure that all kids, all groups of people that want to get an education can get it.” TC McClain continues, “I reach out to different chefs in those communities and give them the opportunity to mentor and mentor the kids.”

Cooking classes will be held Tuesday, August 27th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. through Friday, August 30th, at Can-Do Kalamazoo.

In this case too, the courses are free. To register or get more information, scan the QR code.
