FLINT, Mich., 20 August 2024 /PRNewswire/ — In anticipation of Hunger Action Month, the Food Bank Council of MichiganPartner organizations such as the Food Bank of Eastern MichiganState representative. Jasper Martusand DoorDash celebrated more than 1 million meals delivered to Michigan Residents about the DASH project. State representatives Jasper Martus marked the milestone by presenting a ceremonial food box to a DoorDash Dasher.
This event was the culmination of an ongoing celebration of over 100 million charitable meals delivered by DoorDash’s Project DASH and its partners. Michigan’s seven food banks affiliated with Feeding America, members of the Food Bank Council of Michigancontributed to the 1 million meals delivered across the state in partnership with DoorDash.

According to a 2023 report from the Urban Institute, supported by DoorDash, home delivery is an important tool for reducing barriers to food access. More than three in four customers surveyed said they struggle to get to food banks due to chronic conditions or limited mobility. More than 90 percent of hunger relief organizations surveyed said partnering with DoorDash enabled them to expand their capacity to provide services they otherwise couldn’t offer. About three-quarters of hunger relief organizations surveyed said they were able to reach new populations, and over half cited reduced staffing and transportation costs as the top capacity-expanding benefits of partnering with Project DASH.
