Bake sales, history programs and more – The Portager

This year’s Portage County Randolph Fair runs through August 25. Tickets for events are available at www.randolphfair.com. The fairgrounds are located at 4215 Fairground Rd.

On August 14, the first meeting of the Edinburg Historical Society was held at Edinburg City Hall. The group’s organizers talked about the history of the community, including Edinburg Lake, two different burial sites, and the fact that our cemetery is home to a soldier who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Attendees at this meeting helped with some initial decisions, such as membership dues. Membership dues are: $15 per person or $25 per person as a charter member. Children are admitted free. Come next month on Wednesday, September 11th at 7 p.m. to the Edinburg City Hall, 6856 Tallmadge Road. Check out the Edinburg Historical Society’s Facebook page for updates and more information.

Teachers and support staff from We Support Southeast hosted a “Stuff the Bus” drive for school supplies at the elementary school on August 16. If you were unable to attend that day or would still like to donate supplies, the Edinburg United Church will be collecting them on their behalf over the next two weeks. The church is located at 4081 Rock Spring Rd.

Edinburg United Church is also holding its annual apple pie sale and is taking orders through September 13. The pies are homemade and are sold unbaked and frozen for $15 each. Orders can be dropped off at any church member’s office, or you can call the church at 330-325-1532 and leave your name, phone number and the number of pies needed.

The Southeast Middle School football team is holding a drawing to win half a pig to support the team. Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50. Contact everyone you know on the team to get tickets; the drawing will be on December 13th with two winners.

The 12th Annual Sportmen’s Raffle by SPACE will be held this year on Saturday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m. at the Randolph Fairgrounds. Early bird tickets are currently available through September 1st for $40 each and include dinner, non-alcoholic beverages and entry into main and early bird drawings. Tickets purchased after September 1st are $50 and do not include early bird drawings. Tickets can be purchased on-site at Pettigrew Feed and Hardware at 6773 Tallmadge Rd. or online at https://southeastpirates.org/2024-raffle.
